Trail Boss was designed specifically for low-velocity lead bullets suitable for Cowboy Action shooting.
It is primarily a pistol powder but has some application in rifles.
Trail Boss is based on new technology that allows very-high loading density, good flow through powder measures, stability in severe temperature variation, and, most importantly, additional safety to the handloader.

Excellent for all large volume cowboy calibers.
This is the only safe powder for cowbody era, large volume, formerly black powder cartridges. Charges between 7.0gr and 9.0gr fill perfectly the cases for 45LC, 44-40, 44Spl, etc. This is my main low-density powder for these applications. Although it doesn't meter perfectly in fine volumetric devices, it doesn't matter much; the velocities are pretty consistent.

Delighted to see Trail Boss' return - it's been a long, sad dry spell. I use it exclusively for my ancient firearms, including a .45-70 trapdoor Springfield, a .43 Spanish Remington rolling block and an 1873 Vetterli in .41 Swiss. Easy to load, safe and effective with excellent load performance consistency - please keep making it!
