Originally a military powder featured in the 30-06, IMR 4895 is extremely versatile as a medium burn speed propellant. From the 17 Remington to the 243 Winchester to the 375 H&H Magnum, accuracy and performance are excellent. In addition, it is a longtime favorite of Match shooters.

IMR 4895
A great powder for 300 meters. I had to change from Hodgdon's 4895, Here in Germany Hodgdon 4895 is no more!!

I loaded my first-ever cartridge in 1959 with this powder, (still have it), since then I have loaded hundreds of thousands of Rifle, Pistol cases, and plenty of shotgun hulls, this has always been my go-to powder for my Sako, pre-64 Winchesters in both 308 and 30-06, and I can't improve on the performance it delivers. I even load my .375 Holland & Holland in 275 grain Nosler Partition and 300 Solids with this powder.

Best all round powder
While I'm still a student of the art, after researching and testing I've found 4895 to be the best all round use powder for all my 30 caliber rifles. Easy to meter, load and no issues. Cannot say it's the best as there are too many powder to test them all. But this is my go to powder for my 1903A3 Springfield pet load.

I have been using this powder for years in my 06 and my wife's 243 and 306. It is a good all round powder and with small adjustments for each rifle it gives accurate and even results for our hunting needs.
