Product Overview
Accurate 5744 is an extremely fast burning, double-base, extruded powder. This unique powder can be used in a wide range of rifle calibers and magnum handguns. 5744 is characterized by excellent ignition and consistency over a very wide performance range. Low bulky density and superior ignition characteristics make 5744 an excellent choice for reduced loads in many rifle calibers and in large capacity black powder cartridges such as the 45-70 through 45-120 and 50-90 through 50-120. Made in Canada.

5 5744 Powder for .45 Colt
Posted by PanioloPete on Jan 18th 2022
I recently searched for smokeless powders that would fill a .45 Colt case more fully and saw 5744 as a possibility Although it is considered more of a “Magnum” powder (think 44 Magnum, 454 Casull), it did an admirable job in the cavernous .45 Colt case. When used with a 280-300 grain bullet, it was ideal for my Winchester ‘94 lever action rifle for Cowboy Action Shooting (SASS). Always nice to have an alternate powder with the current and various runs on reloading supplies that make for sparse shelves at reloading supplies!

5 Good for reduced loads

I use this with 223 and can load to 218 Bee velocities but with good pressure. In this regard it works better than H4895 and more like SR4759 which fools ceased making.
