Product Overview

IMR 8208 XBR is an accurate-metering, super short-grained extruded rifle powder was designed expressly for match, varmint, and AR sniper cartridges. As a medium burn speed propellant, XBR is ideally suited for cartridges like the 223 Remington/5.56mm, 308 Winchester/7.62mm NATO and the 6mm PPC.

Shooters will find IMR 8208 XBR yields max velocities and “tack driving” accuracy. Clearly, the competitor’s “choice” and the Varmint Hunter’s “dream powder.”

    6.5 Grendel

Posted by Francis D Hudman on Apr 28th 2022

Have been shooting the 6.5 Grendel for the last 5 or 6 years! Found 8208xbr to be the best powder available in my pump action 28in barrel grendel for super long distances.

    Excellent Powder

Posted by Aaron G. on Mar 14th 2022

I converted to this powder when Varget was in such high demand a few years ago. It was a great decision. I predominantly use it in Service Rifle with great success. This is a competitive discipline using a 20" heavy barrel AR platform shot out to 600 yards. It meters great in a Dillon 650 or automatic trickler.

    XBR 8208

Great powder for my Rock River .223. Using a 55 gr. Hornady V-Max, getting great groups vs. other powders. This powder meters very well, very consistent speeds.

    8208XBR in 6.8mm SPC Rem AR-15.I

Posted by Bob G on Mar 1st 2022

I tried reloading the 6.8 using the recipes listed at Hodgdon Reloading center to no avail. The groups were consistently large. I stumbled on a thread at mdshooters.com which was a test of a rifle built exactly as mine. He also used small primer cases as I do. I have a 20.77 " Stagarms barrel with 1:11 twist. I was able to reproduce his test result (with 8208XBR powder and small primer cases) almost exactly, achieving 1/2 inch groups in Hornady 110gr VMax and Hornady 120gr SST bullets. He used longer length magazines, longer COL (2.300") cartridges, and CCI #41 primers to better factory speeds and accuracy. Versatile/Dead Nuts Accurate

Posted by John on Sep 30th 2021

I bought 8208 on a whim due to lack of available options when I first started reloading. Turned out to be a fantastic powder for my .223 Wylde, 6.5 Creed, and .308 Win. In the Creed I'm getting cloverleaf's at 100 yds, and 1-2 MOA groups @ 500 yds w/140gr BTHP. On the Chrono I get amazingly low SD's consistently. Found my new go to. But that 8 pounds is almost gone so now I have to TRY to get more or re-work all new loads. Let's hope Hodgdon is releasing more soon!

    XBR 8208

Posted by Kevin Kieschnick on Sep 26th 2021

Had excellent accuracy loading 55 and 65 gr BTSP’s for my AR 15. Got an AR 10 in 308 and had same pin point accuracy with it loading it using 150gr btsp’s Highly recommend it. Be sure to work up and find your sweet spot 1/2 gr can make a difference as with any powder. Definitely not a temp sensitive powder. Love it. Meters perfectly!

    Best Powder Yet

Posted by Todd on Aug 2nd 2021

I normally use Varget, which is great, but 8208 is steller. I did a 15 step .3gr ladder test, and 10 of them were already MOA! Now I have to guess at where the nodes are, but that's an unbelievable problem to have; I've never seen anything like it.
