Smokeless Powder

Product Overview

H4831SC is an Extreme extruded powder and the exact ballistic copy of H4831. Physically, it has a shorter grain size which earned it the “SC” designation for “short cut.” The shorter, more compact kernels allow the powder to flow through the powder measures more smoothly, helping to alleviate the constant cutting of granules. With the smoother flow characteristics comes more uniform charge weights, while the individual grains orient more compactly, creating better loading density.

As an Extreme Extruded propellant, it shares the fine quality of insensitivity to hot and cold temperatures, as well as superb uniformity from lot to lot.

It is a favorite for cartridges like the 270 Winchester, 25-06 Remington, 280 Remington and 300 Winchester Magnum.

Available in 1 lb. and 8 lb. containers.

4831 was the first powder I used back in the 60’s as it was available cheaply in bulk as WWII surplus. The SC {Short Cut} version is lots easier to meter as the original was a long grain {used in 20mm shells} and crunching in nearly every throw... But is was cheap, 50cents a pound! I use this in a .280AI and it works great, only wish I could get it for the price of days long ago... {:~)

Hodgdon powder is always reliable, always. I shoot in the NRL and PRS almost every weekend. Hodgdon has never let me down.

    H4831sc in 300wm 208gr Eldm

Couldn’t find any IMR-7828sc and I wanted a more temp stable powder so I’m trying this H4831sc. 1st test 30 rounds in 2gr increments out of rcbs chargemaster light. Found lots of good nodes. One covered 0.8 grain spread that had an ES of 6fps and a SD of 2.8fps that’s hard to get with the same charge weight. So I’m very hopeful.

I love hogdon powders as a rule, but they messed up one of the best powders by shot cutting it. It changed the dynamics in side the case and I am not seeing the accuracy I did with regular H4831 in my 25-06

This is one of the most versatile powders Hodgdon makes and the Short Cut version meters very well. I feel luck to have been able to snag a keg of it!

I use this in my 6.5x284 norma to shoot tiny groups at long range. Best powder choice for that round in my opinion.
